Another family is now left homeless, after fire of unknown origin struck their three-bedroom house at Lot 27 Bush Corner, Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, yesterday morning.
The fire which occurred around 11:00 hours, resulted in Dexter Bristol aka ‘Pension’, his wife and five children losing all their possessions.
Bristol told Kaieteur News that neither he nor his wife was at home when the incident occurred. He said that he received the disturbing news while he was at work.
The clearly shaken man indicated that his children, who were left alone at home, were not harmed during the mishap, and he is contending that it may have been an electrical problem, which started the fire.
A fire tender from Georgetown arrived one hour after the blaze started, while firefighters from Enmore came half an hour later.
The man’s sister, Marva Bristol, who lives a few yards away, said that she was alerted by her eldest niece, who told her that she (the niece) went to the shop to purchase some lemonade and when she had returned home, she saw smoke coming from a locked bedroom, so she quickly gathered her siblings, exited the premises and alerted the neighbours.
According to Marva Bristol, her brother and his family are the caretakers of the home, which is owned by an Aunt, who resides abroad. She noted that her Aunt would lock one of the bedrooms, which contains her belongings, when she is not in Guyana.
