SQUATTERS in Thames Ditton have been evicted from the riverside Grade II-listed mansion they had occupied since the?beginning of October.

Witnesses reported seeing more than 20 enforcement officers moving onto the former Home of Compassion early on Thursday morning, with several police officers providing back-up support.

All the temporary residents left peacefully and the property was secured for the owner, Caring Homes.

A spokesman for the company said it had worked closely with the authorities to legally regain possession of the building.

Caring Homes has come under fire from neighbours and those living in the village for the lack of renovations since it acquired the?property two years ago.

Earlier this week, the company was warned also that it must carry out repair works to the Georgian mansion, with Elmbridge Borough Council writing to set out the legal position.

A council spokesman said: "The former Home of Compassion is a Grade II-listed building and the council has been regularly monitoring its condition.

"The council has recently written again to the owners, Caring Homes, regarding its current condition and the remedial works required, and is awaiting a response from them."

The squatters, some of whom previously occupied Raven's Ait on the River Thames, had pledged to work with villagers to open the building up for community use.

CORVALLIS - Lois Brooks, who led the University computer company for his 25 years at the University of Stanford, 11 has been appointed new vice provost for information at the University of Oregon State services.

As vice provost, she will oversee information network technology and infrastructure which is essential for learning activity dynamic search OSU and administration by the University students. With 40 million annual expenditure, information technology is a rapidly growing, complex and vital part of Oregon State University and its land grant mission.
