Cheap LG Otpimus Update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread Confirmed 2 Million Sold

AndroidGingerbread.JPGNow that most Android phones have Android 2.2 Froyo, LG Optimus owners want to know if their inexpensive LG Optimus Android smartphones will be updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

According to LG's website, "LG will upgrade all Optimus One smartphones currently using the Froyo OS to the next version of the Android OS, Gingerbread.? Details of the upgrade schedule will be announced locally in due course."

Mobile Burn contacted LG and was informed that the update will be dependent upon the carriers.? "If a carrier decides not to support the upgrade, that's beyond LG's control," a spokesperson said.

LG also announced today that its selling its 2 millionth Optimus One smartphone.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread adds many new features.? Besides being faster, it has a better keyboard, typing auto-correct, multitouch key chords, power consumption tools and downloads management.? Android 2.3 Gingerbread also features support for Near Field Communication (NFC), Wi-Fi hotspots and Internet calling (VoIP/SIP support).
