Elderly woman hit by Royal Mail van in Farnham

AN ELDERLY woman was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury after being hit by a Royal Mail van in Farnham on Friday morning.

The incident happened at the rear of the Lower Bourne Post Office, in Dene Way,?at around 10.08am.

The woman, 80-year-old Barbara Spooner, had just come out of the building when she was hit by the red van in a parking area.

She was taken to Frimley Park Hospital where her condition was described as non-life threatening.

Rosemary Holder, 59, who works in the adjoining Costcutter convenience store, was at the scene at the time of the accident and describing waiting with Mrs Spooner for?an ambulance to arrive.

She said: "I had heard that a lady had fallen out back and went outside to see if I could help.

"When I got there I saw Barbara on the ground with another lady supporting her.

"She was in pain but she was talking, she held my hand while we waited for the ambulance."

Surrey Police is appealing for any witnesses to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 01483 639922.
