Man hit by car on A3 is identified by police

THE man who died after being run over by a car on the A3 between Esher and Cobham has been named as Joseph Stephen Cox, from Fleet.

The 24-year-old was hit on the?southbound carriageway just before 3.30am on Sunday.

According to police, Mr Cox?was a passenger in a dark coloured car which stopped on the hard shoulder.

He was then?struck by an oncoming vehicle while in the road.

Mr Cox was taken by ambulance to St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey?but was?pronounced dead just before 5am.

Officers at Surrey Police’s Collision Investigation Unit would like to speak with anyone who was travelling on the stretch of the A3 between 3am and 4am on Sunday.

Investigations are continuing and no arrests have been made.
